This project was a short-term volunteer project for the Good Food Council of Lewiston-Auburn in Maine. I connected with the event coordinator to design some basic social media posts for the Youth Food Charter Champion Awards, following the event's visual identity guidelines and organizing the sponsor logos and secondary text into one image.
The final deliverables I sent were different sizes of the image above for numerous social media sites and other applications. The image above, for instance, was optimized for a Facebook post.
Typeface Explorations
I presented different font options to the team initially. They described the event as targeting a younger demographic so it was important to explore typefaces that were fun and appealing yet still legible. I decided to explore typefaces that were sans-serif and had semi-rounded terminals.
The final fonts chosen were Rubik Edge New Bold for the main headline and Hoss Round Regular for secondary text.
Sketches/Mockups
Different mockups were done for the initial Instagram format. The main problem I was trying to solve was creating a visual hierarchy amongst all the text that needed to fit in the image. I decided to have the sponsor logos and the Good Food Council Logo separated on a white background in the bottom section of the image. The event coordinator wanted me to incorporate icons she provided that best reflected the values of the organization so I incorporated those as a background pattern. The typefaces used in these mockups were placeholders before the final typefaces were chosen.
Final Design
This is the final Instagram post design. The team wanted to have the GFCLA logo separated from the sponsor area, but otherwise this design adhered to the later mockups I designed with minor edits and finalized typefaces. The food illustrations were done by me.
